I am a software developer specializing in audio and embedded, but with a wide range of other skills. I am passionate about effectively solving difficult problems and creating tools that are reliable and satisfying to use. I write software and firmware that tie together data and complex real-time processes that interact with the outside world into both simple step-by-step experiences and powerful expert tools.I have been building my skills and knowledge of digital technology since the mid-90s. I began serious development on projects of my own in 2004, creating custom digital musical instruments. I also collaborate with others as a creative technologist. I have a deep understanding of computation and its relationship to the larger world. I design and build electronic hardware, and write firmware with the attention to detail required to build a reliable and efficient device. I use thoughtfulness to my advantage as I work through problems, conceptualizing several steps ahead to ensure the project works in as many circumstances as possible. Eventually, all software comes in contact with the real world, which requires understanding how it could possibly break.Although I have been working at one company for many years, that does not mean that I have a limited skill set. Through 14 years as developer and CTO at Your Heaven Audio, I have gained experience working at almost every level of software development. From setting bits in chip registers to creating polished user experiences on screen; from planning hardware specs and toolchains to delivering firmware updates over the internet; and from developing DSP algorithms based on proprietary acoustic research to reproducing and fixing the bugs users report, I’ve either done every step myself, or been a part of the small team doing it. As CTO at Your Heaven Audio, I single-handedly tied all these levels together to create one unified product out of many layers of technology. The products we release often go into the hands of non-technical users, such as folk or classical musicians, who can now successfully engage with the CloseUp® System and make it a part of their craft. It has been an incredible process to learn and grow with this company, and bring accessible and uniquely capable products to the customers. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and growing to meet new challenges.
