Over the past 30 years, I've helped build companies across a wide range of industries, ranging from health care to electric cars to politics to the consumer Internet. But though the industries have been different, every one of these companies was trying to create transformative change that would have a positive impact on the world. Most recently, I cofounded and led Cricket Health, which provided comprehensive care for people with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage renal disease (ESRD). Our clinical and business model focused early detection and intervention, slowing disease progression, keeping patients out of the hospital, driving prepared transitions, and increasing home dialysis, access to transplants and conservative care where appropriate. In August 2022, we completed a merger of Cricket with Interwell and Fresenius Health Partners to form the new Interwell Health, the leader in value-based kidney care. Before Cricket Health, I spent six years at LinkedIn, in a variety of senior leadership roles. Among other things, I led LinkedIn's entry into new markets all over the world.

Co-Founder And ChairmanCricket Health Oct 2020 - Aug 2022San Francisco, California, UsAfter cofounding and leading the company over six years, I made the wise decision to hand over the reins to someone far more talented and capable, and all I had to do was occasionally offer advice from the cheap seats while leaving all of the hard work to others. Under Bobby Sepucha's leadership, the company continued to expand, and eventually came together with two other company's to form Interwell Health, the leading player in value-based kidney care. -
Co-Founder And CeoCricket Health Jan 2015 - Oct 2020San Francisco, California, UsWe founded Cricket Health with the idea of building a kidney care company where both the clinical focus and the financial drivers were not in dialysis, but in slowing disease progression and keeping patients healthy and out of the hospital. When we got started, we got little interest from most investors and customers, but it's hard to overstate how much the landscape has changed (for the better) over the past seven years. We built a truly remarkable company with an incredibly strong patient-centered culture that made a profound difference in the lives of the people we served. -
Managing Director And Vp, New MarketsLinkedin Jan 2013 - Jan 2014Sunnyvale, Ca, UsI developed our China entry strategy, and then led a large cross-functional team that executed on that strategy. -
Managing Director And Vice President Of Asia Pacific And Japan (Apj)Linkedin May 2011 - Dec 2012Sunnyvale, Ca, UsI moved to Singapore to focus on expanding our presence in the Asia-Pacific region. We built out our APAC leadership team, established our regional HQ in Singapore, and grew to over 37 million members and 350 employees across ten offices in the region. -
Vice President, InternationalLinkedin Aug 2009 - May 2011Sunnyvale, Ca, UsI was responsible for leading LinkedIn’s expansion into markets outside the United States and Europe. We successfully established a presence in India, Australia and Canada, and figured out how to operate as a global business. -
Vice President Of People OperationsLinkedin May 2008 - Aug 2009Sunnyvale, Ca, UsI was LinkedIn’s first VP of HR, and helped the company through a critical phase of growth. It’s all a bit of a blur now, but among other things, we added structure to the way we evaluated and compensated talent and helped the company through a few minor bumps. However, the thing that will probably have the most lasting impact was to help define an aspirational set of corporate values. It took some effort to take root, but today our values and culture are probably our single greatest asset as a company. -
ConsultantLinkedin Jan 2008 - May 2008Sunnyvale, Ca, UsI worked on a variety of projects for the company—most notably, I wrote the pitch deck/story for our Series D investment round, which raised over $75M. I got a chance to really understand the business, and caught a glimpse of what the company could achieve if we executed successfully. I realized that I had to climb aboard for the ride, though I had no idea that it would turn into a six year journey. -
AdvisorSolectria - A Yaskawa Company Feb 2005 - 2014Lawrence, Ma, UsI was an advisor to Solectria Renewables LLC from its founding in 2005 to its acquisition by Yaskawa Electric (TYO: 6506) in 2014. Solectria is a leading manufacturer of PV inverters, string combiners and web-based monitoring systems residential, commercial and utility-scale solar projects. -
Co-Founder And CeoGrassroots Enterprise Oct 1999 - Sep 2007Washington, Dc, UsFrom 1999 through 2007, I held a series of executive roles at Grassroots Enterprise, starting as co-founder and VP Business Development, then President and COO, and finally CEO from 2003 to 2007. Grassroots was a true pioneer working at the intersection of technology and public affairs, and worked for a wide range of nonprofits, Fortune 500 companies and issue campaigns. From late 2007 to 2009, I stepped out of an operating role and served as Chairman of the company, until it was acquired by Edelman Public Relations. We did some incredibly cool things at Grassroots, and I got to be on the DC Olympic Curling team--the pinnacle of my athletic achievements (well, my only athletic achievement) :) -
Director, Business DevelopmentWarpspeed Communications May 1999 - Sep 1999Warpspeed was a turnaround. I worked there over the course of a few months to help create a new business plan/business model. A few months after I left to cofound Grassroots, Warpspeed got bought by Enron Broadband Services, and I thought I had really missed out on something big. I was wrong...

Market ManagerBcn Data Systems Mar 1997 - Apr 1999BCN was a joint venture between CellNet Data Systems and Bechtel, to take CellNet's offerings to international markets. Most of my work ended up being in the UK, but we dabbled in APAC as well.

Market ManagerCellnet Data Systems Nov 1995 - Mar 1997UsA great idea, strong team, but at the wrong time. We went public in 1997, and thought we were off to the races. Instead, the company went bankrupt in 2000, and the assets were bought by Schlumberger. What probably doomed the company was all of the uncertainty around deregulation of the electric utility industry. -
Vp, Marketing And Business DevelopmentSolectria Corporation Apr 1992 - Mar 1995In retrospect, probably the greatest job I've ever had, though I didn't fully appreciate that at the time. The company's founders had started the famous MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team while at school, and had become a 3-person startup in a garage when i joined. I was the "suit" at the company, given that (a) I owned a suit and (b) I had a vast 20 months of working experience.Over the next three years, we won every electric vehicle competition around, secured millions of dollars of funding from DARPA, were on the cover of the NYT multiple times, and built and sold the Solectria Force, some of which are still driving around today. We were all in our early 20's at the time, and it was a pretty remarkable experience.
