Arwa Kooli is a journalist since 2011. She was one of the first journalists in Tunisia to use infographics and visualization in journalistic stories. Throughout the years she has produced several articles focusing on local and international issues. In addition to her experience of practicing journalism in Tunisia during a transitional process to democracy, Arwa has invested in learning and researching. In 2011, she had her master's defended. She was very interested in internet studies and the rise of social media. She did in fact chose to work on a very new topic back then and tried to uncover citizen journalism practices in Tunisia in 2010. This was not an easy job, she had to counter media blackout and countless profiles and accounts blocked by the ex-regime. With the help of friends living outside the country, she was able to collect interesting data. During those times, the Tunisian revolution took place, and the blackout was taken down. She was able to offer a real-time study of the uses of social media and blogs. Her research entitled: citizen journalism in Tunisia: the evolution of new-prosumers was shedding light on the new practices as they did emerge and develop. Arwa has an excellent academic performance. She topped her graduation year in 2009. And she got excellent feedback on her master's thesis. She was then able to start teaching at the Institute of Press and Information Sciences in Tunisia where she studied. She taught different types of courses ranging from media translation (English/ Arabic) to investigative journalism, to Data Visualization. She teaches also TV production courses and trains students to produce videos and present news and shows in front of the camera, she offers also insight on Moblie Journalism. She has started recently to teach Data Journalism for the final-year journalism students at the same Institute. In 2018, Arwa defended her Ph.D. thesis studying Social media and Political communication in Tunisia. She was also an intern in different programs in the USA, Germany, India... She is a data journalism trainer and media translator and she has collaborated with different international organizations. She is also very interested in research. She co-authored recently a paper on the intercultural communication transnational class which is a collaboration of the Institute of Press where she teaches and School of Journalism at the University of Kent State, USA. The paper was selected as a Top Faculty paper by the 70th Annual ICA Conference.
