About Arwen Bailey

Connecting ideas and connecting people. Increasing access to information and opportunities for dialogue inside and outside the organization in order to foster new knowledge. My work is underpinned technically by formal academic qualifications in International Development Management and Systems Thinking in Practice (MSc). These provide tools and methods for exploring complex and intractable situations, and nudging them towards a better state. My academic focus was on social learning for change (especially communities of practice). How change happens through people knowing, doing or believing different things. How to foster opportunities for people to engage with new information, practices or beliefs, in order to unpack the information and ultimately make it their own. Challenging boundaries of which people are in or out, which ideas are in or out. You can hear an interview with me here talking about applying systems thinking to knowledge sharing at CGIAR. https://www.open.edu/openlearn/society-politics-law/arwen-bailey-on-using-systems-thinking-practiceMy areas of experience and interest are: designing and organizing opportunities for sharing and generating knowledge. These may run from technical solutions like intranets and online working groups to interactive workshops, live events and conferences. Here is a video giving a sense of one large workshop I orchestrated into being https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxgeAIlrzo4I also create ‘knowledge products’ – assimilating large volumes of scientific knowledge and creating (or commissioning) summaries and compilations of best practices, experiences and learnings in a digestible form so that they can be used by other people for their own needs. I am an active member of KM4Dev – the knowledge management for development group of knowledge-sharing professionals. And I have been certified as a trained Community Manager by the World Bank Group.

Listed skills include International Development, Editing, Proposal Writing, Research, and 19 others.
