Responsible for large Information Technology department and data collaboration initiatives supporting research community of a university with approximately 4,500 employees and 35,000 students.Oversee all aspects of technology for research division, including Enterprise and Administrative Applications, Administrative and Research Data Services/Centers, Networking, Servers, Desktop Support, Guide all phases of BI/Data Analytics and data warehouse development life cycle, including requirement gathering, analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation.Telecommunications, Multimedia Technology, and Information Security.Provide leadership to the Research Technology team and facilitate integration of information technology tools into the sponsored research process. Working with the Vice President for Research, our team focuses on developing and implementing technology solutions to reduce administrative burden on researchers.Provide/facilitate meaningful and actionable data via comprehensive metrics and financial reporting.Promote adoption of technology tools by developing and providing technology training programs covering line-of-business applications for support staff.Responsibilities include oversight and development of the research data infrastructure leading with strategic, state-of-the art, creative solutions, and ensure accuracy on all data activity. In addition, responsible for the development, execution and supervision of plans, policies, programs and practices that control, protect, deliver and enhance the value of research data and information assets.

This initiative will establish a data governance platform with diverse participation founded on data integrity that yields timely performance indicators and provides actionable information. The ultimate goal is to enhance effective decision making at all levels across the institution while securing our digital resources.

The goal of this initiative is to identify and launch activities that will increase national and international recognition of UTSA as an institution of research excellence and to reach status as a Research Intensive University, as identified by the National Research University Fund and Carnegie Classifications.

The charge by the Provost to the Advisory Task Force is to survey the landscape of UTSA student interests, regional workforce needs and partnering opportunities, plus multidisciplinary research opportunities related to human health; and to recommend a college organizational structure that aligns health-related programs to enhance student success, career readiness, and partnering opportunities, trans-disciplinary research, and funding competitiveness. The Task Force is charged with thinking creatively and explore multiple organizational models, and the recommended models must be:-Focused on increasing student success-Logical, intuitive and centered around advancing human health from a transdisciplinary perspective-Enabling research synergies and new team science among UTSA faculty and with external partners to increase success on external funding opportunities-Financially viable under the new IRM budget model-Fair (i.e., cannot jeopardize the viability of existing colleges or departments)

Technical oversight and responsibilities: Guide all phases of BI/Data Analytics and data warehouse development life cycle, including requirement gathering, analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation.Administer and provide user requested data sets for SQL server databases.SQL Development, write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, indexes, constraints).Provide support and development for existing applications and SQL Server components (stored procedures, data transformation services (DTS), SQL Server Integration Service(SSIS), etc.).Develop and modify Oracle SQL queries to access and refine Institutional data.Compiled data and department metrics into reports for leadership's examinations of processes.Administer application and software solutions support for users and data analysts.Interpret data to present findings, translate the data into understandable format and provide ongoing reports.Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems.Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.Defines user requirements, develops, tests and deploys software systems and databases.Writing and maintaining documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes and corrections.Design and developing highly complex information management system and business management system software to support critical operations of Research and Sponsored Programs Processes and researchers on campus.Comprehensive database management and administrations.Give onsite and offsite training for clients and staff.

Researched and developed innovative technology solutions within a diverse academic and research environments. Managed the Research Computing System Implementation, Web Development, and Database Management. Provided project management guidance for the implementation of Kauli Research, including interface development for several key systems within the Division of Research. Worked closely with contract employees and Divisions throughout the university to ensure business process alignment during application design while creating the end-­­user documentation.
