I am an attorney with background in all areas of intellectual property and deep experience with immigration matters. Growing up in Los Angeles, and having lived in New York City, I understand the entertainment world. I am a (soon to be) published poet, so I understand the creative mind. Going to school in Silicon Valley, working in a lab at CalTech, as well as getting a PhD, I am familiar with the world of innovation—both high tech and life sciences, as well as the world of academia. As the granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, and having done pro bono practice in defensive immigration for four years, I understand people who are coming here—either to pursue their dreams or to escape violence. I not only have reliable credentials, I have valuable life experience that lets me serve our clients as a true counselor—not just a lawyer. I am proud to be joining this firm in the capacity of both an associate and as a consultant to help launch a defensive immigration practice. The Law Offices of William D. Bowen are known for combining expertise in intellectual property and immigration to entertainers, creators and innovators from all over the world. I am so happy that I can bring my experience to this firm so that our services will cover even more of those who create, innovate, and dream.

PoetRed Orchid Publishing Jan 2014 - PresentRed Orchid will be publishing 32 of my original poems published in a chapbook called "Tremors on the Web." The title refers to the philosopher W.V.O. Quine’s idea of a web of belief: Our beliefs are interconnected such that altering one alters many others, a central theme running throughout the poems.

AssociateRobins Kaplan Llp Apr 2017 - Oct 2017Greater New York City AreaI currently work as a trial attorney focusing on intellectual property litigation in the health and life sciences industry. I am currently gaining experience primarily in the Hatch-Waxman context. I have a strong science background, as well as a background in teaching complex material. I am currently gaining experience primarily in the Hatch-Waxman context. I have a strong science background, as well as a background in teaching complex material. This allows me to understand the complicated scientific and technological issues, as well as communicate them to others. As an undergraduate, I majored in Biological Sciences, as well as Philosophy. I then pursued graduate work in the philosophy of biology. Eventually, I entered a cooperative degree program between Duke University’s department of Philosophy and Stanford Law School. I received my JD in June 2015, and my PhD in Philosophy in December 2015. My dissertation required that I pick up unfamiliar science on a frequent basis, and digest and synthesize it—another useful skill in patent law. I also earned a Certificate in Cognitive Neuroscience while at Duke. I thus have a deep understanding of how people make moral decisions, an invaluable skill for a trial lawyer. Pro bono work is very important to me. As the granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, immigration has long been a passion. I work on asylum cases for LGBT individuals from Central America. I also collaborate with a philosophy professor on an academic paper about ethical and legal issues in the inclusion of trans and gender non-binary athletes in elite international competition. I believe in using all my skills, whenever possible, to help those less fortunate. We don’t move forward unless everyone moves forward. I learned that from my grandfather, who was a Latino organizer and activist in the 1950s and 60s in Fresno, California. I have been writing poetry since I was 14, a talent I share with several ancestors who never published their poetry, or even told anyone about it. However, breaking with that tradition, I am currently preparing a chapbook entitled "Tremors on the Web" for publication. Show less -
