Accomplishments include a 80% reduction in time to field for a distributed processing system based on many open source technologies; successful engineering of upgrade path and deployment of big data systems across the globe in a 9 month timeframe; complete management of system software configuration and hardened security parameters using Puppet on multiple projects where manual administration was done previously, resulting in significant reductions in management/administration costs. -
System AdministratorData Intelligence, Llc. Mar 2010 - Dec 2010Integration lab technical manager for a large Army project. Led team of multiple administrators in engineering and maintaining VMware vSphere integration environments with multiple clusters, integrated SPARC Logical Domains systems and NetApp SAN/NAS infrastructure. This included maintaining Active Directory, DNS, enterprise tools (antivirus, backups, SharePoint documentation systems) as well as patches and upgrades. Designed, tested and implemented in production a secure VPN client environment using Citrix XenDesktop to allow developers, integration team members and managers to securely access the isolated lab network from their desks, significantly improving productivity. Scripted and automated manual processes using various languages (Perl, Batch) to improve build process execution. Built custom LDOM management system to quickly deploy and destroy systems. Coupled with our VMware Lab Manager implementation, this resulted in an 85% decrease in deployment time. Improved communication in the integration environment by setting up lab messaging and email services and improving documentation.

Integration EngineerHarris Stratex Networks May 2007 - Jun 2009Austin, Texas, Us System adminstration for NetBoss Network Management System integration lab; responsible for Solaris, Linux, and Windows systems. Provisioned and "smoke-tested" all customer systems pre-deployment; physically assembled customer hardware, updated firmware and software tools. Maintained lab services, including NFS shared storage, process documentation and built and updated Nagios monitoring solution to meet operational needs. Built a custom backup system in Perl using redundant NAS hardware units, within a significantly reduced budget, which resulted in a time savings for backup and restoration of files. The system employed rsync and hardlinks to effectively store large timeframes of system files in easily accessibly media. Maintained all backups for the lab, including to NAS units and archives to DDS/DAT tapes. Customized Solaris Jumpstart servers to improve functionality and reduce customer system deployment time. Custom-build Windows Deployment Services system and VBScripts to automatically build and configure next-generation customer builds. Previously these builds were done with Ghost and manual post-configuration. This improved lab productivity by eliminating the need to maintain images and to run manual post-configuration. Built a modular "smoke-test" in Java for the next-generation product pre-delivery testing. This allowed any administrator to test customer systems quickly through a common interface and extend the interface to add new functionality to the smoke-test when new features were added. -
