Arzak Khan is a digital policy expert focused on internet development, Cyber security and the expansion of internet access in the global South. Other aspects of his research explore the promotion of human rights on the internet, the dark side of technological change, and the unintended consequences of ‘connectedness’. His work on AI explores the potential risks on use of AI systems including bias, discrimination, surveillance, lack of accountability, untrustworthy AI systems deployed in critical infrastructure, job displacement, and mass manipulation, among others. He is passionate about empowering marginalized voices from the South in global cyber policy debates and decision-making processes. He has a wide experience of serving in public sector and specialist management roles at the federal level, and holds an MSc in Communications Management from University of Strathclyde as a Chevening Scholar. He is also recipient of prestigious awards like the Media Policy Fellowship at University of Oxford and PhD in Mediatization, social and cultural change from Lillehammer University College, Norway. He is an active contributor to numerous networks sharing his knowledge and skills for contributions to youth development in the region.
