The primary focus in this position is to obtain pertinent information from callers to determine urgency and location of requests. While doing this, I am responsible for dispatching ambulances, supervisors, EMS support personnel, and other agencies - including Law Enforcement, Fire, and Aeromedical. Multitasking is a must - while dispatching emergency personnel, it is imperative to provide detailed first aid or CPR instructions to callers until arrival of ambulance. Scheduling medical transports as well as taking emergent calls is another role in this position. When scheduling medical transports. great attention to details is required. I am responsible for understanding how a patient qualifies for medical necessity, and having a general understanding of how health insurance processes EMS claims. I assist with the billing and coding of EMS medical claims. I assist in reviewing the EMR to verify the quality of the EMR.

During my time as a registrar, my primary duties included registering patients in a timely manner, upon arriving to Emergency Room. During the time of registration it was my responsibility to complete accurate registration of patients. verify Insurance benefits, explain hospital financial policies to patients, answer any questions a patient may have about their visit to the Emergency Room, and refer them to a financial counselor when necessary. It was essential that I have an in depth knowledge of various insurance policies, and benefits, and how various types of insurance policies pay claims. It was also my obligation to ensure that the registration process was done as efficiently and accurately as possible, as errors on registration could slow down the process of hospital claims.

During my role as a Patient Financial Counselor, it was essential that I was sympathetic to a patient's situation, while also collecting revenue for the hospital. My immediate responsibilities were to assist patients in applying for the hospital's financial assistance programs, assist in helping patients apply for and receive KY Medicaid through KYNECT, help qualified individuals apply for DSH program, and screen incoming calls regarding hospital bills and billing questions about bills received, I worked closely along side of billing specialists to help get billing issues resolved and retrieve missing information from patients to submit a proper claim.I developed a thorough understanding of how different types of insurance process medical claims while using various systems, including Meditech, KYMMIS, T Systems, and KYNECT.

As an Administrative Assistant, I was in charge of running the day to day operations of the front office. I was give the responsibilities of accurately maintaining clients medical charts, filing and maintain paperwork for clients according to state regulations, incident report tracking, and coordinating with Case Managers to receive/send current medical paperwork for clients. I established a detailed expertise of the eligibility process for KY Medicaid, specifically with Waiver programsI also assisted with maintaining and obtaining Prior Authorizations for clients, billing for services provided through the Adult Day Program (which furthered my knowledge of ICD-9, CPT codes, and KY Medicaid Waiver billing for providers), and aided in resolving with troubleshooting for billing problems.
