Overall responsible for the timeous monitoring, controlling, and periodic reporting of the sections operational KPI’s against set targets.Ensure complete alignment of the Geochem & Instrumentation section’s operational KPI’s with those of the Johannesburg analytical facility.Responsible for maintaining HSE standards and implement further measures for continuous improvement in ensuring a safe work environment in the section as well as the laboratory facility overall.Responsible for meeting the section’s service delivery targets against industry demands i.e. quality and turnaround time, as well as contractual agreements with respective ALS clients.Compliance to the ALS Quality Management System. Responsible for ensuring ALS quality protocols are adhered to and quality targets met at all times and in accordance with ISO17025 quality standards.Ensuring the section’s readiness for internal as well as external audits.Responsible for root cause investigation and problem solving initiatives pertaining to quality issues.Timeous reporting of quality incidents to all the relevant stakeholders.Define, plan, and oversee sound system changes and improvement projects periodically to facilitatecontinuous operational improvement, productivity initiatives, and production efficiencies.Stay up to date with latest industry trends and anticipate operational needs accordingly.Plan/ schedule staff levels accordingly, to ensure optimal resource availability and maximumthroughput.Institute sound cost saving initiatives at all times within the section to ensure financial targets are met.Evaluate, motivate, and develop section staff through appropriate training and technical support to achieve optimal performance levels. Overall responsible for performance management ofinstrumentation staff where required and against clear performance metrics.

Participate actively in production meetings and appropriate forums to ensure production targets aremet and consistency of operational objectives across the entire laboratory.Define, monitor, and revise inventory stock levels to ensure uninterrupted operations and minimizecost.Responsible for the scheduling of preventative maintenance to all equipment in the section to avoidexcessive downtimes, maximize equipment performance and overall smooth running of theoperations.In consultation with HR, coordinate the recruitment of new staff within the section. Facilitate all inter-departmental transfers and re-deployment to and from the section to ensure multi-skilling and crossfunctionality of operational staff.Conduct annual performance reviews for all staff and plan ahead with new goals for individualemployees and in line with overall section objectives.Ensure time and attendance in strict accordance with ALS policies for all staff in the area ofresponsibility i.e. timeous completion of monthly timesheets, appropriate leave planning, etc.In consultation with the facilities line management, perform all other reasonable duties that may addvalue to the company’s overall objectives.

Provide support on various Laboratory Equipment e.g FTIR, NIR, UV/VIS, Microscope, HPLC, Dissolution Systems, Analytical Balances, KF Titrinos, Familiarisation training given to Laboratory Analysts on equipment Method Development and Validation on various product linesAdvise on laboratory requirements and drawing up of User Requirements Specification for purchasing of new equipment.Maintenance and calibration of analytical equipment Record and track stock of spares and consumablesResponsible for on site installation and validation (IQ, OQ, PQ)Complete and record all relevant administrative requirements ie.qualification, maintenance and calibration reports.Liason between company and suppliers on administrative and technical mattersBuilding further relations with suppliers
