Throughout my undergraduate education, I participated in and made several research contributions as a young scientist. My first endeavor was supporting the San Diego Zoo Global (SDZG), in their conservative efforts of various species of primates. My investigations were of the Mandrillus sphinx (mandrill) tetrad, located at the San Diego Zoo. I probed into the novice concept of relationship dynamics within this tetrad of mandrills. This exclusive opportunity is what initially inspired my desire to continue to working with animals and conservatory efforts.Fortunately in my undergraduate education, I was exposed preliminarily exposed to computer science courses that have inclined me to continue furthering my education in the field. Bioinformatic principals are an excellent interdisciplinary toolbox to utilize as as researcher. At the UCSC Genomics Institute I had the unique opportunity to work on two different projects simultaneously throughout an eight-week summer intensive, known as Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K). My next endeavor is with the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center (UROC) at CSU Monterey Bay, as a paid Researcher. I was involved in the Behavioral Neuroscience Lab where we investigated intersectionality of cognitive functioning, physical activity/physical fitness, and their impacts physiologically among young healthy adults. I worked to develop effective methods measuring various aspects of higher-level cognitive functioning. My involvement here fortified my futuristic desires residing with employment within industry versus employment in academia.
