My role was within the Asset management and maintenance team, who were responsible for ensuring that the assets were within working conditions and being replaced appropriately before they could impact the grid. But with the improvement in data management, it was amazing to see how predictive models could be built to proactively plan for these replacement or corrective actions. My role involved investigating similar models and attempting to build a correlation between the age of a pole to its residual strength reading. This was a great opportunity because it gave me abundant exposure to data analytical tools which are used widely throughout many industries. Tools such as PowerBI, regression models, and Excel but also the different methods in which data can be manipulated to reach specific conclusions. It was also amazing seeing the assets, and the incredible infrastructure that make the grid operational and provide electricity to homes and businesses. My time at Ausgrid was great and I have learned a significant amount which has positively impacted my outlook as a young engineer. Show less

I was tasked with working with optimal intervention date models and risk models to assist in cost-making decisions and how to obtain the best value out of each asset. Alongside this, I also investigated the possibility of replacing diesel generators with more sustainable options such as large battery banks. Through this internship, I was exposed to a large number of data operations as my team mainly focused on data operations and manipulation to arrive at formative conclusions. This role really gave me a greater insight into the power industry and the shift in the organization towards more automated operations. Furthermore, my team showed me the importance of data analytics and how it can improve cost-saving measures and decision-making. My time at Endeavour Energy was awesome and filled with great learning where I was exposed to a lot and was able to easily ask a lot and grow as an engineer. Show less

It was also useful to get additional experience with simulations which gave me a great opportunity to improve my coding and technical skills. This project revolved around working with a team and committee where we were exposed to the general design process and iteration of a product concept.
