From managing the flow of donations after disasters to the everyday items that people give away, it was my job to tell the story of how any donation - large or small - can make an enormous difference in someone's life.

As I gained experience with the ABC, I was asked to act in the role of the Chief of Staff from time-to-time, ensuring the smooth running of ABC Western Queensland, taking responsibility for overseeing the office and assisting with editorial questions from staff.In my more regular role as a presenter and producer I would make high quality radio packages, often with an online element, which were regularly played on state-wide programs and on ABC 612 Brisbane. I would enhance stories through taking or sourcing photographs and writing online versions of local stories that had elements of interest national audiences.

Anyone who has ever put together an early morning breakfast news bulletin knows it can be incredibly fast paced. As the news journalist for ABC Western Queensland I would generate news stories every day, produce, order, present, and take ultimate editorial responsibility for my radio news bulletins. In this role, I filed content for radio news, online, local programming, social media and delivered a feature-length news story for ABC TV news. I told the stories of western Queenslanders during the ongoing drought with the goal of getting as many of those stories as possible to wider, even national, audience.

As the Mornings Presenter for ABC Western Queensland, my chief responsibility was sourcing stories for the Mornings Show and presenting them from 8.30am to 11.00am every day. However in the modern world, journalists now find themselves filing stories across multiple platforms and it was no different for me. The greatest joy in this role was finding a story and covering it from start to finish on radio, online and on social media, engaging with the audience along the way.

Whilst working in the tourism industry in Longreach, I filled in as a casual presenter and producer for ABC Western Queensland, learning how to turn the dials and push buttons in the studio and how to interview anyone from Old Mate up the road to experienced politicians. I would source stories, line up interviews, write scripts and questions for the presenter when not presenting myself and practice all the skills I would need later as a broadcaster.
