The primary function of my position was to ensure that all plant and equipment are maintained to the highest standards. I was expected to implement systems and procedures to manage the running and maintenance of all plant and equipment and all related works (welding, sand blasting, stores, etc) from the Durban Yard. It would also entail ensuring that the Yard meets all the required SHE standards as per the OSH Act and a fully functional support service is rendered to outlying sites.The Geotechnical Plant and Equipment comprises of large Drill Rigs Excavators, Compressors, Bobcats, LDV’s (Toyota, Nissan, and VW), Vibrator Hammers, Bredel Pump’s and general construction equipment. My Tasks:• Develop and implement policies and procedures to affect coherent repairs and maintenance for all plant & equipment• Plan and manage a sustainable maintenance support system to effectively support outlying sites to sustain safe production on a just in time basis• Design, implement and sustain a fully-fledged preventative maintenance regime.• Control and manage all plant and equipment by developing an Asset Register that is updated every month.• Submit regular plant audits reflecting the whereabouts, condition and running costs of the same.• Manage the technical staff allocated to the yard for maintenance purposes such as mechanics etc• Plan and implement training and certification of machine operators, drivers and technical staff to ensure safety and upkeep of all P&E if and when necessary. • Manage the labour force in the Yard.• Coordinate transport of normal and abnormal loads to and from suppliers/manufacturers and sites. • Maintain comprehensive Repair and maintenance records of every plant item suited for SHE requirements.• Participate in Safety Meetings• Make sure Tool Box Talks and Inductions are undertaken in the Durban Yard.• Ensure that Safe Practices are adhered to at all times in the Durban Yard.• Participate in all Management Meetings
