I work for DPD as a self employed franchisee driver, I have to arrive at the depot in the morning to collect my parcels which consists of scanning each one then numbering them up and changing any drops around to make the route easier and more quicker for myself I then have to load the parcels in the correct order to ensure I am not looking all over my van for the parcel when I arrive at the delivery address because I have a set time to deliver in.

I have worked for virgin doing residential installs which would include Television, internet and phone line this would involve me connecting up brand new customers from scratch so I would have to agree with the customer the best way to route the cable inside and outside the house so that they are satisfied then i would do this to the best of my ability making sure everything is done correct. i would also have to then connect in the cabs or slots in the road to get the live signal to the house this would sometimes involve lifting pits in the road and toning cable in order to find the right one for the house that you are working on. once the signal is live to the house the services would then be installed such as television and internet this would have to be in a certain spec in order for it to work correctly so making sure the right amount of signal is going to the house is key. i would make weekly checks of stock on my van and then make an order to ensure that i was always full of consumables and ready to work. this job gained me confidence in decision making and planning and preparing to work efficiently on my own. it also made me more familiar with power tools as drilling was done daily, also the use of signal testing meters. i have gained experience in telecoms and have an understanding of how it works.

I worked for capital shop fitting for around two years in between other jobs. I have worked in various stores across the united kingdom including morrisons, Tesco, debenhams, premier inn, jd sports etc... my job role would be to assist tradesmen either doing maintenance or on big jobs with 20+ men doing out a whole store. This would include unloading arctic lorries sometimes on live car parks so extra care would be taken, we would also dismantle old store furniture pallet it and then load it back onto the wagon whilst another team assembled the new equipment, it was a physically demanding job at times as long shifts would have to be done.

I was a trainee plumber for 2 years doing bathroom suites and kitchen fits on a council housing estate project working as a sub contractor , my role included ripping out the old bathroom and help install the new one. I would prep materials ready for installation measure distances for pipework then install pipework both copper and waste, on a day to day basis at least 1 bathroom would be installed and kitchen pipework as these houses had tenants inside which needed access to water depending on the needs of the tenants some houses had shower trays installed instead of baths. I also assisted in the installation of guttering which involved taking out the cast iron and replacing it with plastic. I also assisted in replacing boiler flues and installing outside taps. This came to an end due to the owner of the company moving away but I have continued my college course and now have my level 2 city and guilds in plumbing and heating.
