About Ashar Khan

I’m currently the Chief Data Officer of a leading FTSE 50 company having held previous roles as Chief Technology Officer, Business Transformation Director, IT Strategy and Head of CIO Office over a 10-year period. Prior to this, I worked as a Tier 1 management consultant for 18 years across a range of clients in industries from Energy & Utilities, Banking, Public Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals. I’ve spent a significant amount of time in consulting working outside the UK in European countries (such as the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, France, and Germany), the US (mostly Chicago and Houston), and the Middle and Far East (in Oman and Malaysia).I have in-depth experience of implementing technology and business change programmes in areas such as supply chain operations, asset management, HR, procurement, sales & marketing, and finance - increasingly with mobile and digital enabled capability. As a consultant I specialised in business processes such as Order to Cash, Source to Pay and others related to logistics, work management and their link to financial systems of record.My functional responsibilities include (or have previously included) governing departmental budgets, managing headcount / recruitment, reporting opex/revex/capex and producing 5-year financial forecasts, negotiating major supplier services contracts (such as Accenture, IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Salesforce, Capgemini, HCL, Computacenter and many other software and hardware providers), creating hybrid IT/business strategies, operating models, and supporting M&A activities.As of 2022, I’m a member of the Gartner/Evanta UK&I CDO Governing Body. I’ve also won IT industry awards (as part of a team) and given keynote presentations at international conferences. I’m a TOGAF9 certified architect (2010) and have been a Member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET/IEE) and UK Engineering Council since 1993.
