Devise and deliver Australia’s Major Sporting Event strategy and lead global team (15 staff) to identify/secure major infrastructure/service contracts for Australian companies relating to Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and other major sporting events. Developed Australia’s business programs: Rio 2016 Olympics and FIFA 2014 World Cup (Brazil) and AFC Asian Cup and ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 (Australia); London 2012 Olympics, engaging 650 decision makers responsible for future major sporting events (18 countries) through diplomatic channels e.g. Japan (2020 Olympics); Qatar (2022 FIFA World Cup), culminating with a high-tech showcase within the Australian High Commission, London; delivered Australia’s presence at the SportAccord Convention in St Petersburg, Russia, including 1:1 briefings to Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Lord Sebastian Coe KBE; panellist at invite-only Lowy Institute ‘Football Diplomacy’ Forum (Policy Paper published).

Design/deliver the Australian Government ‘official business program around global sporting events’ for: Olympics (London 2012, Vancouver 2010, Beijing 2008); Commonwealth Games (Delhi 2010, Melbourne 2006); FIFA World Cup (South Africa 2010), Rugby World Cup (France 2007, Australia 2003). Lead multi-disciplinary global team spanning marketing, communications, media, events, venues, commercial partnerships, VIP/corporate hospitality and procurement. Multi-million-dollar, cross-cultural business / diplomatic strategies supported by National Sporting Organisations (AOC, ARU, FFA, ACGA). 25,000 business and political leaders engaged, including Heads of State. Accredited with helping win $2 billion in deals for Australian companies. Won Australian Marketing Institute Award for Innovation (over IBM, Telstra). Instigated Austrade’s $20 million ‘Brand Australia’ initiative. Invited by IOC to author the ‘international business leveraging blueprint’ to assist future Olympic Host Cities (UK, India, Canada, New Zealand replicated the initiative). Delivered Australia’s ‘official venue(s)’, 371 networking events, 250 corporate hospitality sessions (all tickets allocated against business case), multiple Ministerial business missions, corporate affairs campaigns, significant commercial industry partnerships.

Various corporate projects as directed by the Trade Minister, Board, CEO or Executive. E.g. helped establish Invest Australia; member of five-person team to restructure export advisory division (70 staff); implemented new monthly report process (Balanced Scorecard); and member of team to address Department of Finance and Administration audit.

Provided international trade advice to Australian companies, specialising in major accounts (agribusiness, ICT). Postings to Milan, Auckland; secondments to Australian Business Limited, Invest Australia, Sydney Olympics Business Team. Export deals facilitated. In a 25-person team, achieved 19% and 17% of the ‘service revenue’ (FY01/02, FY00/01).
