Undertaking the design and project management, in all aspects, from initiation to close out. Gaining knowledge and experience with New Zealand design and construction processes including resource consents, building consents and administering NZS3910 during construction.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Involved with projects and proposals in the coastal and marine field including waterfront developments, fishing harbours, marinas, coastguard facilities and FSRU/LNG facilities. Familiar with project management and financial systems from initiation to close out of a project and is gaining experience working as a Project Manager and Coastal Engineer on awarded work. Gaining further experience with contractual issues and business acumen on projects throughout the Gulf region with knowledge and implementation of FIDIC contracts. Providing coastal engineering expertise for the assessment and design of concrete/rock armour structures, beaches and marinas/jetty berths and feasibility assessment of waterfront masterplans.

United Arab Emirates

Worked on a number of waterfront/ island developments and port projects throughout the UAE and Oman in the role as Maritime Engineer. Undertook designs for rock and concrete armoured structures, beaches, marina/berth layouts and assisted with tender evaluations. Involved in projects from concept to construction.

Wallingford And Plymouth

Awarded an EPSRC CASE studentship to research seawall performance and reliability. Undertook an in depth literature review of the subject area including: reliability methods and classification, design and failure mechanisms of seawalls. Utilised the current fragility curve methodology to assess the reliability of a seawall at a case study site and critically reviewed the results. Started to develop a new methodology to take into account multiple loads on the structure, specifically considering beach levels at the toe.

Dubai

Roles and responsibilities included: Assistant project manager on a 2.8 million pound shipyard project; Coastal structures design; Proposal writing; Cost estimation; Compiling tender and contract document; Attending interdisciplinary and client meetings; Design of breakwaters; Professional report writing; Quality assurance and control of own work and others; Design team coordination; Tender support and communicating with clients/contractors.Significant experience was gained during the placement with Halcrow with respect to real time project issues and decision making. In addition, the time spent in industry provided exposure to the importance of contractual and commercial awareness as well as client relationships, client care and working within a multi cultural team environment.
