Video Editor
Current
Junior Video Editor
Through this role I have created content for a variety of social media platforms, starting on Facebook and Snapchat, and moving on to edit content for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. Through this I have gained a deep knowledge of multiple platforms and an understanding of which content performs best on which platform. In this role I have edited long form content that represents our brand, such as original series on Snapchat and YouTube, in addition to a variety of short form content, such as reels and TikToks. This has built upon my professional experience of Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop, for a variety of different video formatsDuring my time in this role I have transitioned into working purely on creative campaigns, editing content for brands such as Vinted and Canterbury. Through this I have gained experience in marketing and in working on creative campaigns, and have participated in all stages of production. I also have experience preparing pitches and presentations, in collaboration with producers and graphic designers. As Screenshot caters to a Gen Z audience, I have also gained valuable knowledge of what appeals to this demographic, something that is reflected in the work I have produced in this role.
Freelance Writer
Following my internship at Bauer I was kept on as a Freelance Writer. When I started this new role I was assigned specifically to Heat and Closer where I focused primarily on writing articles. Through this role I wrote a variety of articles every day and also pitched article ideas, through using sources such as Google Trends to see which stories were trending. As part of this job I had to stay on top of social media trends and celebrity and entertainment news stories, meaning I developed my research skills in a professional environment, carrying over what I had learnt at University. This position has also taught me a great deal about working in a creative team. In this setting communication was key, especially as the team were predominantly working remotely. Consequently, this role allowed me to strengthen my communication and interpersonal skills. Through this role I was also able to develop my organisational skills, as articles had to be pitched, written and submitted within a specific time frame in order to perform well on search and social media.
Storytelling Executive
This role has given me professional experience in digital journalism and media in general. In this role I worked mainly at Heat and Closer, but I also had the opportunity to work with other brands, such as Hits Radio and Kiss FM, where I wrote various music related articles that were published on their website. At Heat and Closer I specialised in video editing, and edited many videos for both brands, from YouTube videos, to Instagram reels and Facebook videos. Through this role I edited in a professional setting and worked efficiently towards deadlines in constant communication with my collaborators. I have also been able to develop my skills on Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop, and have gained experience colour grading. As part of the role I have also had the opportunity to write a variety of articles for the brands and have been able to develop my writing style to the point I feel I have a clear voice.
Cafe Assistant
Here I had the opportunity to work in various areas throughout the café. Each shift we would be assigned to different areas of the café. I would wait tables, work on till, wash dishes and make coffees. I was often responsible for operating the coffee machine, keeping the standard of coffees high even in times of the café being busy, as would be the case during school holidays. I worked here during my gap year and continued to work here during university holidays.
Teaching Assistant
In this role I covered absent teaching assistants in various primary schools around Bristol, working mainly with years one and two. Through this job I gained a great deal of experience in communication, both with my colleagues and with students. Describing certain concepts to young children required me to reconsider who I was talking to and how to convey these concepts in the simplest terms. At one school I worked at (Chester Park Infant School), I was mainly working with children who particularly struggled with English. I found games to often be the best way to approach this as this would allow me to make learning more engaging and easy to understand. Through this job I learnt about the importance of communication and became a very adaptable worker, changing my approach to work depending on an individual student’s needs. It was also an incredibly rewarding experience that I feel has made me a more empathetic person.
Bfi Film Acadmeny
Through this course I worked as part of a creative team to produce a documentary short on life expectancy in Bristol entitled ‘9.5’. Although my role in the group was primarily in sound recording, I was heavily involved in the postproduction process. Through this I learnt how to use Premiere Pro, a skill I have further developed in my own creative projects in the time since. In addition to the technical experience I gained, perhaps most valuable was the opportunity to work as part of a large creative team to produce a film. This experience improved my teamworking skills, showing me the importance of communication in creating a film: the experience taught me to be more open to the input of others and equally made me more confident to question others. All this was in service of the finished film which we as a team were very happy with. Through this experience I made many friends and created a film I would certainly not have been able to make were it me alone making it.
