Junior Year: Throughout my junior year at the Berkshire School I had the opportunity to conduct research as part of Berkshire's Advanced Math Science Research program. During this time I studdied the effects of GFP-Fusion on Hsp27 oligomeric potential through phosphorylation under various stress conditions in vitro. During my project, I worked closely with Dr. April Burch and other teachers at Berkshire. I learned vital skills in VERO cell cultivation, DNA transfection, and in vitro examination through IFA and Western Blot procedures. I presented my findings to teachers and students at the end of the school year.Senior Year: During my final year at Berkshire, I worked with Dr. April Burch, Dr. Howard Shcuman, and Talia Buckhman on a project attempting to isolate a bacteriophage of Legionella pneumophila. L. pneumophila is a water-born virus that can cause Legionnaires disease, an extreme form of pneumonia. We attempted to isolate a phage through several different natural water and solid samples. This project allowed me to learn and expand my skills in phage isolation, bacteriology, plate analysis, and sample isolation using various techniques.
