Helping customers at the the Mapleton YMCA in the mornings and assisting with youth programs in the afternoon

I am the Unit Program Director at the Spotswood Elementary Boys & Girls Club in Harrisonburg, VA. I direct, supervise staff, and plan/lead programs at the club.

• Demonstrated outstanding classroom management in whole class, small groups, and one-on-one settings• Differentiated content and showed flexibility in teaching, utilizing standards in a variety of styles and tailoring content to ensure that all students would be able to learn• Developed strong rapport with students and parents: showing personal interest and care for all students by conversing with them throughout the day, developing personal relationships with each one, and keeping open-lines of communication with parents (calling, emailing, conferencing, and conducting home visits)• Demonstrated strong teamwork and taught in a professional manner: effectively communicated with colleagues, prepared for team meetings and class, and showed common courtesies to students, faculty, and families

• Directed weeklong camps of 30-70 youth, grades 3-12 (planned and facilitated programs, led hikes and all-day trips outside of camp)• Led summer-staff daily and weekly meetings and team-building exercises: led ropes-course activities and team-building hikes• Managed office work: addressed phone calls, set-up appointments and trips, and communicated with parents about campers and potential campers• Developed strong relationships as a counselor: bonded with, showed personal interest in, and showed care for all campers in cabins of 4-10 children
