Unreasonable Institute gets entrepreneurs what they need to scale solutions to the world’s biggest problems at programs ranging from 5 days to 5 weeks. We do this by identifying entrepreneurs with the potential to address problems like poverty, lack of education, and social injustice at scale, and then by swarming them with hand-picked mentors, funders, and partners to help grow their impact. And once entrepreneurs leave our program they can forever access and engage with this global network of entrepreneurs, mentors, and funders that now spans over 50 countries. Our goal is to help each of these ventures scale up to meaningfully impact the lives of at least one million people each.

The 2011 Fellowship aims to facilitate Muslim and Jewish dialogue and will comprise fellows who demonstrate a working commitment to these communities and who show a proven ability in acquiring business skills and knowledge derived from the humanities.In addition, they are required to demonstrate a shared purpose in using social entrepreneurship as a new bridge across the cultural divide.

NAYA JEEVAN is dedicated to rejuvenating the lives of low-income families in the emerging world by providing them with affordable access to quality healthcare embedded in an ecosystem of socioeconomic opportunity. Our initial focus is South Asia with operations ongoing in Pakistan.NAYA JEEVAN collaborates with multinational corporations to cascade its health plan up and down their 'value chains' enrolling low-income suppliers, distributors, retailers and micro-retailers as part of a market-based, multi-tiered, loyalty-incentive program.NAYA JEEVAN also operates two non-profit organisations (under the names NAYA JEEVAN FOR KIDS (USA) AND NAYA JEEVAN FOUNDATION KARACHI (PK). A large target group of beneficiaries are vulnerable populations such as people with disabilities and children from marginalised communities.While infant-child mortality rates in Pakistan and India remain unacceptably high, the ‘indentured’ children that survive often serve as child-labor in quasi-apprenticeship roles, deprived of formal primary education and quality healthcare. One of the primary causes of this child 'bondage' is a financially devastating, catastrophic medical event that incapacitates the primary breadwinner of the family. Emergency medical loans are often taken from loan sharks at extortionary, predatory rates, virtually guaranteeing the perpetuation of generational poverty. Languishing in menial jobs, the spirit of these 'lost generation' of children is often extinguished at an early age. Many of these children are incredibly talented - yet that talent is systematically crushed through the knowledge that they must fend for themselves, without any safety nets or access to dignity or opportunity.NAYA JEEVAN FOR KIDS was created to fill this gaping void in their lives.

The awardees of the Centennial Innovation Challenge were selected by an international panel of judges that included: Oscar Silva, Aleka Dondo, Ai-Jen Poo, Amolo Ng’weno, Seiji Machida.Each Winner will receive support in proposal-writing to enable the further development of their solutions, in addition to an invitation to apply for a grant of up to $100,000.The 10 Winners were chosen for their truly breakthrough ideas, which have the potential to transform livelihoods for millions of poor or vulnerable people working in informal economies worldwide. Their solutions demonstrated catalytic innovation, strong potential impact, effective response to context, and spark.Informal employment is a significant and growing part of the world’s economy; it accounts for around 50% of employment in North Africa and in Latin America, 65% of employment in Asia, and 72% in Sub-Saharan Africa. Given the vast number of informal workers, spurring new innovations that improve worker’s livelihoods in the informal economy is a critical issue.We thank everyone who has participated in the Centennial Innovation Challenge and helped activate a global community to improve livelihoods in the informal economy. The Global Agenda Council on Social Innovation strives to engage governments, enabling them to stimulate social innovation by helping to develop suitable policy. Most government officials, even the most committed to this field, wish to know which policies have been tried elsewhere and how successfully, before committing to a domestic reform agenda. Accordingly, the Council is developing a compendium of global best practices that foster social innovation, including tax policies, technical assistance and enabling regulation.
