As a Community Support Specialist, I work directly with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental health disorders involved in the Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation services. • Provide community based support, case management services, and group education to the Disease Management population. Assist clients in gaining access to resources (rehabilitative, medical, social, educational, and psychiatric). • Complete documentation using clinical standards and in a timely fashion. Meet ethical/agency standards regarding treatment and documentation, QA/QI procedures, utilization management, emergency procedures, and program/client outcomes.• Assist supervisor in completing assessment and treatment plans for clients. • Serve as multi-disciplinary treatment team member.

My research interests are primarily forensic related. Research I have assisted with and presented on include:• Springfield Mental Health Court (MHC). I observed court and interacted with many professionals in the legal setting. I studied the outcomes of court and the relationship between the subject and the probation/parole officer. (Overseeing Professor: Paul Deal, Ph.D.)• Drury University Law Enforcement Academy (LEA). I attended classes, helped administer the Shipley and MMPI-2, and did data entry. I studied the overall outcome of the officers in relation to their scores on these inventories and their relationship with their field training officer. (Overseeing Professor: Paul Deal, Ph.D.)• Psychology Department Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA). Being a ULA (see details above), I helped improve and gain research on the psychology 121 course. (Overseeing Professor: Christie Cathey, Ph.D.)

Springfield, Missouri Area

Because Psychology 121 classes often had 300+ students, six undergraduate learning assistant's (ULAs) were needed in each class. The course was broken down into an in-class, online, and study session setup. Research has shown the outcome to increase examination scores and overall grades in the course. Responsibilities included: • Tutored/mentored introductory psychology students.• Kept in touch with 55 students each week and took attendance at each class. • Created study material and held study sessions on each unit of the course, • Attended bi-weekly classes on leadership and teaching skills. • Held an office hour each week for students needing tutoring.

As an intern, I got the opportunity to see all aspects of the Child Advocacy Center. Some opportunities and responsibilities I held included: • Shadowed members of a multi-disciplinary team made up of forensic interviewer, child advocate, juvenile officer, children’s division officer, and law enforcement officer. • Attended pre- and post- meetings, watched forensic interviews, and observed court for child abuse cases.• Completed tasks such as printing, shredding, filing, answering the phone, scheduling appointments, welcoming families, cleaning waiting room, etc.

As a Behavior Support Technician, I supported individuals with intellectual disabilities in being active members of society. Responsibilities: • Assisted individuals in everyday tasks such as hygiene, shopping, school-work, exercising, cooking, etc., • Attended many training sessions on applied behavior analysis, mental illness awareness, Mandt 1 restraint training, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in order to stay up-to-date in the field.
