I've worked as a teacher, assistant team leader, curriculum team leader and coach/ lead practicioner within teaching and throughout my time in education thus far have come to have my driving belief validated for me. One of the main factors in teaching is your passion for your subject as this is what will drive you through the tougher times and push you to seek the best in all you do. Data is the acid test for our teaching and whilst good data could be thought to indicate good teaching I find myself questioning whether our data is measuring the right things. The data matters - it is the truth and cannot lie but cannot explain its story to us and as teachers we often fail to read beyond the headlines and to find the stories hidden in the data.I have recently started a new role with the aim of developing our outdoor education offer into a robust and sustainable system targeted at both what students want to do but also what would help them develop as individuals. My vision would be for students to eventually move away from requiring us as the facilitators of their adventures and discover their own paths into this massively varied world. I am also an associate with AQA involved in the writing of GCSE Statistics Assessment papers. This role interests me as Statistics is arguably the most relevant field of Mathematics available to an analyst but is the one which is often underrepresented among teachers when it comes to both in depth knowledge and enthusiasm.In short I am a teacher, outdoor education enthusiast, believer in the purity of mathematics, public statistics enthusiast, advocate for rigorous use of educational research, keen if untalented mountain biker, gamer and unashamed coffee addict.
