Ashlea D. Newman currently serves as Special Assistant to the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General in the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety's Office of the Attorney General. Before joining the Attorney General's Office, Ms. Newman served as Deputy Attorney General in the Division of Criminal Justice's Appellate Bureau, where she represented the State of New Jersey in criminal appeals.Ms. Newman previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable James E. Baker of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. Prior to her clerkship, she worked as an intellectual property litigation associate at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, a large international law firm. While in law school, Ms. Newman worked for the United States Air Force Appellate Government Division, where she focused on criminal appeals, and interned for the Honorable Gerald Bruce Lee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Earlier in her career, Ms. Newman served as the government affairs coordinator for Teva Pharmaceuticals, the largest generic pharmaceutical company in the world. Raised in Florida, Ms. Newman received her Bachelor of Arts with honors from Winthrop University and graduated cum laude from George Mason University School of Law.
