Sailed on board the Young Endeavour as apart of V04/23Join a crew of young Australians and embark on a life-changing 11-day journey – learning not only how to sail a square-rigged tall ship, but how to lead, support others and work together as a team. A voyage in Young Endeavour is fun, but it’s not a relaxing holiday. You’re stepping into a new world at sea and you will be required to be an active member of the crew and contribute to the voyage. Be prepared to face your fears, push yourself out of your comfort zone and discover how you rise to challenges. By the end of the voyage, you and your fellow crew will take command of the ship and put your new skills to the test. It’s an adventure like no other.

The voices of students and young people from across the Northern Territory (NT) were key to the development of the education engagement strategy; a 10-year strategic plan to set a new course for student engagement and improved educational outcomes so that every child can engage in learning. A key action of the education engagement strategy is for the Department of Education (DoE) to establish consultative and decision-making mechanisms to capture student voice on matters of policy development and program delivery. This is an opportunity for young people across the NT to contribute to policies and programs that affect them and ensure their voice is represented in decision-making processes.

With Tegan at Dragonfly we have a range of different jobs and responsibilities that can vary,depending on what she had on that day. Some of these jobs can include things such as cleaningdishes, helping with food prep, polishing cutlery and glasses, cleaning tables and chairs, ironinglinen, unloading and loading the vans or trucks and helping set up functions. We also attendfunctions with Tegan to help serve food mainly from a buffet (due to COVID), but also collectdishes such as plates, cutlery and glasses and make sure everything goes well.

These days are very similar to when I was doing work experience. Throughout the course of theday I will assist the tradesmen with their scheduled jobs, this includes doing things such ascollecting required tools and materials from their utes, filling in the job cards, completing anyrequired forms for the job, to actually assisting them with the actual job. Some of these jobsinclude changing taps, water sampling, replacing broken/split pipe work, unblocking drains,completing rough in’s and completing plumbing inspections on houses.

Every Wednesday, I go to Scatts Plumbing to undertake work experience as a part of a schoolprogram to lead into a school based apprenticeship in 2022. During the day, I get put with one ofthe blokes there and have to go with them to complete the jobs they have been scheduled thatday. The jobs include a wide range of different things including changing taps, water sampling,replacing broken/split pipe work, unblocking drains, completing rough in’s and completingplumbing inspections on houses.
