After my fixed-term maternity cover role finished, I expressed interest in training to be a technician. My studies started in March, and I have just completed my first paper out of 6 total.My roles as a trainee technician include processing prescriptions through the computer, dispensing prescriptions, assisting with packing of compliance packed medications, running the packing robot, assisting with stock take and stock rotation, and much more.

I have been volunteering as a crew member aboard the Spirit of New Zealand ship since 2015. The Spirit of Adventure Trust operates 10-day long voyages for 40 teenagers aged between 16 and 18. My role on the ship is as a Watch Assistant, with 10 teenagers (also known as “trainees”) in my Watch. My many responsibilities on board include teaching my Watch how to safely sail the ship, ensuring the general safety of the 40 trainees on board at all times (including during periods of sailing, swimming, and hiking), leading de-briefs with my Watch, and liasing with other crew members in order to ensure life on the ship runs as smoothly and safely as possible.
