I started at American Bookkeeping and Tax as an intern. I started my internship with them in June of 2019 and finished my internship in August. After the completion of the 180 intern hours, I was invited by the owner to stay on part-time. During my internship and since, I gained valuable real-world experience beyond what I learned from my teachers.My job duties included basic bookkeeping, data entry, monthly bank/account reconciliations, organizing client books, preparing end-of-the-month statements and end-of-the-year statements when applicable. Listening to my superiors and learning from my mistakes, as well as those of my coworkers, is some of the most valuable education. I had to learn some humility as well and be able to realize that not knowing the answer is okay, as long as you ask for help. The biggest gain from this job/internship that I have received is realizing that my employer is not just my employer they are an educator, a teacher with years of experience and knowledge to learn from.During my time here I have deepened my understanding for the work and have become fluent in my job. This is valuable knowledge and skills that I will need to move into the next phase of my career.
