Established a home entertaining company, published two cookbooks, and developed a line of products as well as a curriculum for cooking classes. Researched, authored, photographed, developed and executed the design and layout of The Drinking Girls Guide to Spanish Food and The Drinking Girls Guide to Casual Entertaining, as well as developed a self-publishing and marketing plan resulting in over $15,000 in sales.

Disseminated information about volunteer opportunities on behalf of the school administration in order to recruit and manage volunteers for Grades 9 – 12. Worked closely with the Development Head and Community Liaison to develop a series of programs to present to parents on a quarterly basis.

Produced a 24 to 30 page monthly newsletter that supported the club’s mission of easing newcomers’ transition to Madrid, Spain. Contributed editorial and travel pieces, developed relationships with freelance writers to ensure interesting content, worked collaboratively with the club’s advertising staff, and designed ads for advertisers upon request. Edited all content as well as developed and executed layout design, including a redesign of the front page for the club's 25th anniversary.

Served as a liaison and advisor between the unit’s leadership and 80 military families in Madrid, Spain. Developed and implemented a strategic communication program to ensure effective messaging between organizational leadership and families. Recruited and directed volunteers to serve in key positions. Planned and executed meetings, social events and philanthropic initiatives resulting in high levels of community engagement throughout family separations caused by unit training and deployments to Afghanistan.

Designed a blog about life in Spain and travels around Europe. Contributed travel and humor pieces with photography, as well as worked with other bloggers to provide interesting content for readers. Posts from the blog were printed in publications in Spain, as well as on other travel sites.

Kansas, Texas And Spain

Conceptualized the business model of Firecracker Fairy Music, including character development, writing and recording of original children’s music, as well as production of CDs and merchandise. Developed a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and songwriting that provided children from elementary through high school age with opportunities to use songwriting techniques to improve their writing skills. Conducted workshops in public and private schools, as well as throughout the community.

Fort Hood, Texas

Supervised and led a team of 15 volunteers in the planning and execution of the club’s annual fundraising event, raising over $23,000 in net profits, an 80% increase over the previous year. Planned and executed this annual fundraising event, including collaborating with committee members responsible for solicitation of community groups and businesses for financial donations, coordinated donated items for silent auction, as well as entertainment. With my co-chairperson, coordinated all event planning, including acquisition and preparation of the venue, including all decorations, food and activities. Coordinated, trained and supervised over 50 volunteers on the night of the fundraiser to ensure this large-scale event ran smoothly. Managed budget for the operations side of event.

Fulfilled both short and long-term substitute assignments across all subject areas, effectively teaching students of varied academic/age levels (Grades Pre-K - 5) and diverse cultural backgrounds. Instructed classes with as many as 25 students; communicated with teachers, administrators and parents, and built a positive rapport with students. Consistently requested “by name” to substitute for teachers across all grade levels. Recruited by another teacher to fill a 10-week Kindergarten substitute teaching position.

Killeen/Temple, Texas Area

Produced a monthly newsletter for parents, students and staff providing information about Parent Teacher Association and school activities. Researched and provided educational resources for parents, as well as games for children. Worked collaboratively with contributors to ensure the newsletter was delivered on time every month. Redesigned the newsletter, cutting production costs by 50% from the previous year.

West Point, New York

Produced a targeted semi-annual fundraising newsletter in support of Army Crew at the United States Military Academy. Redesigned the 8 to 12 page newsletter using Microsoft Publisher, to include a special fundraising insert enabling individuals to make their contributions directly to Army Crew via the Association of Graduates (AOG). Worked collaboratively with coaches and team members to develop content for the newsletter. Served as a liaison to the Membership Director and Annual Giving Director of the AOG to ensure all fundraising information was in compliance with Academy rules. Worked directly with the printing company to ensure on time delivery of the newsletter. During my tenure as editor, the newsletter transitioned from an informational letter to a fundraising tool resulting in over $125,000 in funds raised for the operating expenses of the team.

Developed a fundraising strategy for the club to cover operating expenses. Created several programs new to the club, including a community sponsorship program, booster program, and an innovative raffle program. Targeted resources through formal proposals to solicit funds from local businesses, resulting in $7,000 raised in three months.

Austin, Texas Area

Led the Austin Area Chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association, including conducting songwriting workshops and leading peer critiques, handling correspondence, and interfacing with the association’s headquarters in Nashville. Research, secured and negotiated terms for a rental space for meetings. Planned and coordinated special events for the chapter with hit songwriters from Nashville and managed the budget for special events and our chapter.

Fort Hood, Texas

Prepared instruction for ten 3rd grade students using the assigned curriculum and incorporated live music into classroom activities, while providing a safe educational environment for children flourish and grow in their faith.

Moderated online songwriting message board of nonprofit music organization, provided topics of discussion, identified songwriting resources for members, mediated disputes between members, and interfaced with senior management to ensure goals of the organization were realized.

Managed the day-to-day operations of a 20 family child care cooperative, supervised the cooperative secretary, and enforced compliance of the cooperatives by-laws, as well as mediated disputes between members.

Assisted in the analysis, design and implementation of a new database tracking all research projects for the Army Research Office (ARO) in Triangle Park, North Carolina. Conducted beta-testing of the new system onsite with ARO employees and compiled testing results allowing programmers to make needed modifications to the database. Trained ARO employees on use of the new database, resulting in a smooth and successful transition from the old system to the new one.

Contributed travel articles about various aspects of the travel industry, featured destinations and money saving tips to this local paper which was published twice a month.

Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Provided protocol expertise for all Division functions, including three Division retirement ceremonies, a memorialization ceremony, a Division Change of Command, a Brigadier General promotion ceremony and numerous social events associated with the 50th Anniversary of D-Day. Provided staff assistance to divisional units for ceremonies and social functions. Developed a working relationship with counterparts at the Corps protocol office, streamlining the coordination necessary with higher headquarters. Planned and coordinated all visits by distinguished visitors to the Division and demonstrated the ability to foresee their requirements and concerns.

Supervised eight Soldiers in the collection, disbursement and accountability of over $12.5M in government funds. Served as the principle adviser to the Division Finance Officer concerning all Treasury related matters. Prepared and submitted appropriate accounting reports to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. Commended by higher headquarters during annual compliance inspection. Commended by higher headquarters during annual field training evaluation for both technical proficiency and commitment to mission accomplishment no matter how difficult the conditions. Initiated pay missions to unit locations for travel advances and settlements to improve support to Division Soldiers. Compiled, staffed, edited and published a Battalion Deployment Standard Operation Procedures Manual which addressed both Finance technical and tactical procedures. Served as unit movement officer and safety officer.
