As a Client Management Intern in the Risk Management department, my summer project was to standardize and streamline the four main documents used by sales producers, insurance marketers, and account managers in the insurance renewal process. My final project result was a Microsoft Excel template that served as a master data entry location. I implemented macros with VBA to automate many aspects of the master workbook. I also created a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) file with the help of my mentor, and then I led live trainings to our Account Management and Insurance Marketing teams on the new processes for the new workbook.

Engaging and connecting with guests and co-workers led me to discover my passion for customer service. I love helping customers in the store and enjoyed training new employees. Although I primarily work as an associate in the Ag & Pet Department, I also love getting the chance to help in other departments. During the summer of 2022 I also spent time packing merchandise in the E-Commerce department for online orders. I did custom hay tedding for local farmers during the summer. With help from my dad, I invested in a Kuhn GF 5001 hay tedder with money from my college savings. I sent out postcards to about 35 farmers within a 5-mile radius. This experience was a leap out of my comfort zone. Through communicating with farmers, I gained more independence and confidence in my work. In April 2021, my business was featured on the cover of the Dyersville Commercial local newspaper. The future plan for my custom tedding is to sell the tedder to my younger brother for him to continue doing the business.

I spent countless hours doing a wide variety of activities on our farm. From raising bottle lambs to hauling & unloading hay to pouring concrete, I have developed many niches. I still enjoy working on the farm during the summer and when I visit home throughout the school year.
