About Ashley Blacquiere

I think if I could have any superpower it would be to possess an infinitude of earned knowledge. I don't want that download-directly-to-the-brain technology that was popularized in The Matrix; I still want to be able to *earn* the knowledge, because that's the *fun* part. There is so much to learn, to contemplate, to synthesize, and to disseminate. Nothing would make me happier than to immerse myself in constant culture of learning, just for the joy of it.This philosophy (literally!) motivates the enthusiasm and the commitment I have brought to all the roles I have held in my career: from game development to teaching, from private industry to public institutions. The culture of the life-long learner has been the most key thread throughout my career as I've developed critical problem solving, strategic thinking, and leadership skills. In my day-to-day work, from a leadership standpoint, I pull together diverse threads, priorities and interests to facilitate the operation of an interdisciplinary, computer science- and design-oriented, post-secondary academic department at a regional college. From a teaching standpoint, I use my own experience to help support other learners on their post-secondary journey in web and mobile app development. My strong convictions in the benefits of life-long learning strengthens my capacity in both roles. In addition, I bring to bear the following experiences in my day-to-day:• My 10+ years of teaching, assessment design, learning outcome development and learning management at the post-secondary level;• My ability to operate at a strategic level in communicating with external stakeholders, community members, and on both college-wide and province-wide committees; • My years of experience in the video game industry that served to build my capacity as an out-of-the-box problem solver in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment;• And my commitment to open source principles, that drives the philosophy with which I develop curricular materials. And at the same time, I'm also scratching my life-long-learning itch by working on a second masters degree in computer science to compliment my existing masters in digital media. And, as you might guess, I'd be happy to talk your ear off about my research any time you care to listen. :D

Listed skills include Actionscript, Flash, Python, Java, and 24 others.
