Directs, prepares, and completes the individually published annual financial statements for the University, as well as the related directives for submission to the Virginia Department of Accounts. Serves as primary audit contact for annual financial statement audit and annual NCAA agreed-upon procedures. Oversees a staff of 7 professional accountants within the Financial Reporting department to produce periodic deliverables such as quarterly reports to the Board of Visitors, monthly revenue reports, quarterly accounts receivable reports, UBIT returns and payments, debt service payments and reporting, capital construction finance reports, and annual internal control reporting (ARMICS). Also responsible for maintaining the University's general ledger and ensuring reconciliation to the Commonwealth of Virginia's accounting system (CARDINAL).

Implement and monitor the ARMICS internal control directive at JMU as mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia; annually document, test, and report to the Virginia Department of Accounts regarding overall compliance and any control deficiencies noted for major fiscal processes; aid in the preparation of annual financial statements and assist management with responses to annual audit inquiries.

Monitor capital spending to ensure proper fiscal stewardship and compliance with state regulations; prepare related reports for management; prepare and submit bond reimbursement documentation to the state treasury; aid in the preparation of University-wide financial statements and assist management with responses to annual audit inquiries; assist with federal indirect cost study and submission to regulating authorities; conduct monthly departmental compliance audits and food service contract audits; assist with the implementation of internal control objectives and related testing.
