I teach math to engage students who have been historically excluded from access and opportunities in STEM fields. A kid at heart, I infuse my curriculum with joy and playfulness and support students in developing the qualities of successful mathematicians: persistence, flexibility, resourcefulness, creativity, and collaboration. My background as a camp counselor and outdoor educator reminds me to invite students' full selves into the classroom and connect the math we learn in class to nature, architecture, and hands-on interactive learning experiences. In our increasingly data-driven world, critical thinking and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching math have never been more critical. In recent years, I have been emphasizing tech skills like using Google sheets to make sense of large overwhelming data sets and Desmos to model and visualize complex phenomena. I strive to teach a 21st century math class, and equip students with the skills and tools that will be most relevant for today's world and the future.
