About Ashley De Beer
My earliest childhood memories involved spending an inordinate amount of time playing, watching or thinking about sport. From waking up early to watch South Africa play Australia in cricket, to practicing attempted bicycle kicks in the backyard for hours on end, sport has always played a fundamental role in my life.I aim to realise this passion by being of benefit to youth and adult athletes. I firmly believe in using sport as a mechanism for personal betterment, while the happiness sport brings too many needs to be correctly harnessed. From a personal perspective, it is imperative to help youth individuals realise both their personal and sporting aspirations.The socio-economic context many young athletes experience in South Africa makes development a challenging task. My involvement with a youth football academy and adult team in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape has given me a greater understanding of these difficulties. The determination of the players to succeed, despite the numerous barriers and obstacles present, has had a profound effect on me. I possess a strong research and theoretical background in sports science, having recently completed my Master of Science degree. The thesis focused on talent identification and development of youth South African footballers and the barriers which may limit their individual capacities.I have a wealth of experience in creating and implementing long term youth development structures, as well as providing a high quality sport science approach for a variety senior teams and athletes.
