Collaborated with an Anthropology Ph.D. candidate on their dissertation project to research skeletal rib samples from a medieval Italian site called Pieve de Pava. My work consisted of preparing rib samples for microscopic analysis through mounting and grinding slides. Once prepared for the microscope, we utilized histological methods to reconstruct the health profiles of past individuals. Through this program, I honed my skills in lab operating and safety procedures and my experience in handling skeletal samples and processing slides for analysis. The data we collected through histological research methods provided a more holistic understanding of the health and disease of the past. I hope to continue this line of research in modern populations through forensic criminal investigations.

Mentored by an Anthropology Ph.D. candidate to analyze medieval Portuguese skeletal remains. Prepared bioarcheological samples for microscopic analysis. Utilized histology to systematically categorize taphonomic damage of skeletal rib samples. Collected data on the preservation of osteological remains qualitatively and quantitatively. Become proficient in Image J, Micro, and Macroscopic imaging. Developed a research poster with my mentor to present to other fellows in the program. After the program, we presented our research poster at the Western Bioarcheological Group Conference (WeBig) where we won 3rd place overall for our work.
