I work on a project that uses rat models to investigate the spatial memory and navigational problems associated with Schizophrenia and Down syndrome. We specifically look at place-cell replay for CA1 pyramidal cells in the hippocampus and the effects of optogenetically silencing their inputs from the CA3 Schaffer Collaterals. My job is to help build the microdrives that are implanted in the hippocampus, train the rats on a linear course for a chocolate reward, euthanize rats, perfuse and slice the brains, help record data, and cell-cluster the data for interpretation.

The goal of this group is to raise awareness for and eliminate the stigma associated with mental health disorders by hosting campus-wide events that bring mental health issues to the forefront.

I am part of a sisterhood of women who creates a positive social environment and takes part in philanthropic events throughout the semester. In particular, we are active in our participation in our national philanthropy, Read, Lead, Achieve, which works to foster literacy. My chapter raises money for this cause through many events, including our annual Speed Read and 5k for Literacy.
