I will graduate from Campbell University in December 2021 with a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. My goal is to care for patients in an inpatient facility, with a preference towards neurologic cases. My time at Campbell allowed me to experience three diverse clinical internship rotations. I completed my first internship at an outpatient orthopedic clinic in Myrtle Beach, SC, where I saw primarily the adult and geriatric post-surgical population. My final rotations are planned for the VA in Wilmington, NC and an acute care center in Charlotte, NC. Prior to this, I accumulated over 200 hours of shadowing experience in the outpatient orthopedic, outpatient neurologic, outpatient pediatric, acute care unit, inpatient TBI, and inpatient SCI settings. While at Campbell I took advantage of several leadership opportunities. The most involved of these was the Community Relations Chair of our Pro Bono Clinic. Aside from treating, my most important role was advertising to the community in order to recruit new patients. I also managed the clinic's social media accounts. Additionally, I took on a leadership role in two of the campus Special Interest Groups. I also consider my undergraduate experience to be very well-rounded and a great picture of who I am. ECU gave me the ability to continue many of the things I love, as well as experience new things. I got the opportunity to continue my huge passion for cheerleading, eventually taking on multiple leadership roles on the team and competing four times at NCA Collegiate Nationals. I also pursued many new paths that I never thought I would including joining a sorority, completing a research project, and studying abroad in Australia and New Zealand. Each of my different organizations supported a different cause and led me to spend hundreds of hours with various groups including the Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Starkey Hearing Foundation, Greenville PALs, and more. As a result, I have a huge bleeding heart for service and helping people. I chose physical therapy as my path because it’s one of the few fields where a strong connection with patients is developed. Physical therapists are fortunate to be given the gift of time with their patients, allowing them to get to know a client’s background, personality, strengths, weaknesses and personal goals. I want to help people heal their broken bodies and stay physically healthy for as long as they can, to help people continue to do the things they enjoy, and to pass on what I’ve learned and educate others about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
