The legal team at Blue Nile supports the company and all of its departments globally, and advises on issues related to contracts, marketing and advertising, tax, employment, intellectual property, regulatory compliance and risk management, legal disputes, and data privacy.

With broad legal background and experience, the members of our team leverage knowledge in employment law, M&A transactions, commercial leases, technology, data privacy, healthcare, corporate governance, contracts, and regulatory compliance to find strategic solutions for clients. As part of the corporate counsel team, I advised clients on all matters related to their business, drafted and revised corporate documents, negotiated contracts, and provided training to business leaders and their employees. I also wrote articles for the Equinox blog and hosted/led many of Equinox’s FOCUS events – an educational webinar series that takes a deeper dive into legal topics along with actionable takeaways.

At MedBridge, I functioned as the HIPAA Privacy Officer and sole Corporate Counsel. As Corporate Counsel, my responsibilities included contract drafting and negotiation, advising business stakeholders on any legal and regulatory compliance matters, and drafting and managing corporate policies. As Privacy Officer, I lead the company's effort to achieve HITRUST certification status, which it successfully achieved within one year of project commencement. My responsibilities also included negotiating Business Associate Agreements with customers and vendors, drafting and revising HIPAA compliance policies and standards, and working closely with the technology and product teams to implement PHI security standards best practices.

I worked closely with the legal and compliance team on issues relating to alcohol compliance, contract law, trademark protection and registration, and other business-related legal issues. Most of my time was spent doing legal research and writing memos. In my time here, I had the unique opportunity to translate complex legal jargon into plain language for the marketing team, demonstrating both an ability to understand the law, as well as to communicate it effectively and efficiently for business-minded people. My work here included: research into state and federal consumer protection laws; trademark matters; contract interpretation and guidance; preparing a national (50-state) survey of particular alcohol/beverage trade practice laws and regulations; and research and analyses regarding domestic and international commercial law issues.
