I taught an on-line course in the History of Medicine through the Continuing Education Faculty at Oxford. To prepare for the position, I completed a course in Effective On-Line Tutoring, which provided me with the skills necessary to communicate effectively in an on-line environment. My responsibilities during the course involved encouraging discussion, answering questions relevant to the course material, and directing students to further reading in the subject. The experience was particularly valuable in providing me the opportunity to teach students at various stages, whose knowledge of the subject material varied widely. Learning to teach on-line also gave me first-hand experience in communicating effectively through a variety of mediums.

I taught a course on the History of Early Modern Medicine to a visiting undergraduate student. I met with my student on a weekly basis, gave lectures, guided discussion, and provided her with a reading list specifically tailored towards her interests and the research she needed to undergo to prepare to write her undergraduate thesis. As a tutor, I constructed my own course syllabus, conducted lectures using Power Point and other visual aids, and provided my student with detailed feedback on her progress.
