About Ashley Mauritzen

Hello. My name is Ashley and I'm a commercial semiotician and cultural analyst based in East London. I’ve been helping brands decode consumer culture and future-proof their place within it since 2010.Combining focused semiotic analysis, big picture cultural insight and bold strategic thinking, my work has been used to drive brand positioning, product innovation and creative development by some of the world’s biggest brands.Underpinning my work is a fascination with how identity is sought and expressed through culture and consumption. And while personal care, luxury, digital behaviour and the millennial mindset are passions, I’ve helped clients harness everything from Britishness to sustainability to Gen Z “joy”. SEMIOTICS is an agile methodology that produces big insights: using forensic analysis to reveal hidden meaning, making powerful lateral connections that create big ‘ah ha’ moments, and unlocking your brand / category present (and future) state-of-play.CULTURE is the place where it happens. One step ahead of us and changing every day. Taking in the big picture, spotting patterns and mapping critical tensions and trajectories, and identifying energetic white space to help brands stay ahead of the game. With a background in journalism, my practice is distinct for its emphasis on demystifying semiotics (no jargon here), producing clear, thought-provoking and actionable strategic insights - with plenty of personality. If you have a question and would like to know how semiotics could answer it, contact me on ASHLEY.MAURITZEN@GMAIL.COM.I am also available for panels, workshops, multi-methodology collaboration, global project coordination, proposal development, editorial work and chatting generally about what makes semiotics such a great insight tool in the first place.
