I assist the unit in collecting, updating, and maintaining criminal history information. I accomplish this task by being apart of the Challenge Team and the NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) team. As a member of the Challenge Team, I accept formal challenges from the public (specific to the individual's criminal history) researches the events and updates the record (if necessary) to match reports from law enforcement agencies, prosecuting agencies, and adjudicating agencies. I am legally held accountable for every action taken on a subject's record and am required to testify (if needed) as a subject matter expert on the policy/procedure used to update a record.As a member of the NICS team, I am responsible for responding to FBI requests for criminal history information, including copies of all documentation that the FBI requires for making decisions on arms purchases. I am also responsible for updating Arizona Criminal History Records to reflect final dispositions, and court orders for the NICS process.
