Spearheaded and oversaw the implementation and success of projects consistent with the center’s vision of creating a criminal justice system where actual practices correspond with best practices. Organized criminal-justice-centered events with a strategic focus on bringing together key stakeholders including academics, policymakers, practitioners, law enforcement, the media, and the general public. Cultivated successful partnerships with a number of organizations where together we convened stakeholders, both locally and nationally, for roundtable discussions on pressing criminal justice reform issues. Oversaw and contributed to the production of tangible written work product designed to make criminal justice research accessible and digestible. Managed a felony caseload of roughly 35 clients, including approximately 8 first-degree murder cases at any given time. Researched legal issues, negotiated plea agreements, investigated factual issues, and drafted motions. Conducted evidentiary hearings and trials. Maintained an extensive motion practice. Established and maintained relationships with community agencies such as the Bail Project, the Arizona Justice Project, Terros, Southwest Behavioral, and others. Served on Mentorship Committee to assist with internal mentorship within the office. Served on Know Your Rights Committee; create training materials, put on webinars for the community and assist with social media promotions relating to various community topics such as one’s rights at a protest, juvenile’s rights in schools, and what rights the constitution affords. Served on a special action team dedicated to developing Covid-19 related litigation for office wide implementation. Drafted briefs later used throughout the office challenging a variety of Covid-19 related delays in speedy trials, sentencings, preliminary hearings, and related issues. Drafted special actions filed in the Court of Appeals and a habeas petition to the Arizona Supreme Court. Supervised roughly 12 externs and mentored approximately 20 externs/law clerks. Selected as the 2020 Ross P. Lee Award winner in recognition of my dedication to the provision of high-quality representation to indigent individuals.

Supervised approximately 30 new attorneys through hands-on training. Instructed and assisted new attorneys with spotting legal issues, research, and working up a case. Coached new attorneys on all aspects of client communication and courtroom presentation. Trained new attorneys on hundreds of legal job-related topics over the course or 3 weeks as well as training on office policies, confidentiality, professionalism, and work product expectations. Documented and reported performance issues directly to the Training Director.

Negotiated quarterly contracts and purchased television advertising on top National Cables and Local Broadcast markets. Increased personal billing by 10% each year, totaling $3 million in 2010 and $4 million for 2011. Maintained client relations and top levels of client profitability. Spearheaded entry into the Spanish language television market. Supervised junior media buyers by conducting weekly trainings and daily meetings.
