I have the opportunity to care for patients in critical condition in the Neurosurgical ICU at Beaumont Hospital. The patient population includes, but is not limited to, hemorrhagic strokes, craniotomies, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle accidents, and falls. I care for patients on a two-to-one nurse to patient ratio.

Orthopedics Neurology And Trauma (Ont)

My position as a Lead Nurse on ONT is an enhanced version of the Charge Nurse role. My responsibilities include staffing the unit, assigning beds to patients, auditing charts, and keeping track of our compliance with core measures. This position is also considered a management position, giving me the opportunity to connect with and coach the nursing team on our unit.

I have the pleasure of working on a unit known to us as ONT - Orthopedics, Neurology, and Trauma care. This is a fast-paced unit with a five to one patient to nurse ratio. Many of the patients we care for come in for traumatic orthopedic injuries, postoperative elective orthopedic surgeries, strokes, and traumatic brain injuries. In December 2013, I became the Chairman of this committee. As Chairman, I organize and lead monthly meetings on my unit after attending leadership meetings led by Parkview's Chief Nursing Officer. In February 2014, I became a preceptor on my unit. This has given me the opportunity to work along a new hire on an eight week orientation.
