Third year psychology and art student, future art therapist. For the longest time, I knew I wanted to take my passion, art, and use it to help others in need. Art has always been an outlet for me to use whenever I needed to express myself in ways other than words. I wanted to expose other people to the power of art but I felt I wasn’t confident enough to approach strangers in order to do this.During my time at St. John’s University, I’ve gone beyond my comfort and became involved in various organizations and opportunities to build the skills I was lacking to become a leader. Within my first semester, I was asked to lead an art therapy inspired event for the Student Psychological Association which assisted in the attainment of my position, event planner. I also worked over the summer as an Orientation Leader, helping me build the skill to interact with individuals of various backgrounds. Those are just a few examples of how I became involved on my campus to prepare myself for the interactions I may experience as an art therapist. I hope to complete an internship that will provide real-life experience and important skills I can use in the future.
