Since the business was formed in 2001 we've worked for a wide range of clients, from small start-ups to large, public sector organisations and blue chip PLCs, on projects both here in the UK and overseas. We've delivered a diverse range of assignments across the construction project lifecycle, from initial feasibility through to operation and maintenance. The projects themselves have been equally varied, from helping British Land to improve the quality and timeliness of the information flowing out of the design and construction phases into the operation and maintenance phase on their cutting edge office portfolio in central London, to restoring peat bogs in the Scottish Highlands with the aim of repairing these damaged landscapes and capturing the CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming. We've also delivered a range of sustainable travel schemes, including an award-winning £80 million sub-regional bus improvement scheme in the West of England and the Bath CAZ, the first charging clean zone outside of London.

I briefly worked here as a Project Manager, developing a robust solution partner programme prior to mobilising Gleeds as the company's first solution partner

In 1981 Schal was the first company to bring professional, fee-based construction management into the UK, pioneering its use on major commercial office projects in London. I worked here as an Assistant Project Manager and then Project Manager on several fast-track, out-of-town retail stores for Sainsbury's and Tesco, as a Project Manager on the Tate Modern and as Bid Manager for BT Project Jaguar. I was also part of the team involved in helping Sainsbury's pioneer partnering, standardisation and 'lean thinking' to deliver their new-build large format stores faster, better and cheaper than ever before. From 1998 I was also Head of Technology Development, responsible for researching and developing new products and processes as well as liaising with the Movement for Innovation (now Constructing Excellence) regarding Schal’s demonstration projects

I worked here on a number of building and civil engineering projects, the largest and most complex being the civil engineering works in connection with the installation of a £30 million state-of-the-art Through Air Dried (TAD) tissue mill at what is now SCA's Goyt Side Mill in Chesterfield during a four-week plant shutdown

Established in 1984, Van Elle has grown to become the UK's largest independent piling and foundation contractor with an enviable reputation for quality, value, innovation and customer service. I worked here on a part-time basis during my degree course (shortening it from a four-year sandwich course to a three-year full-time course) and then full-time from June 1992. Working as part of a small, closely-knit team we managed up to 40 underpinning, mini-piling and remedial contracts across the Midlands and North of England at any one time, one of our largest contracts being the underpinning in connection with a phased remedial works programme across the Parsons Cross Housing Estate in Sheffield
