It has been over 4 years now since I first stood in Maasai Land eager and idealistic with hopes of bringing social and economic progress to a people who needed not the vision, but lacked only the resources to make it happen. I have grown wisdom beyond where I thought this project, or even life, would take me. And have been molded in a way that has changed my fate. I also have learned why it is so important for non-profits to do their homework before they embark on a project that will have irreversible consequences on a people, village or nation. Even some of the most intelligent and passionate can fail, if they fail to listen with their hearts and bend their business acumen beyond their breaking. What I have learned is that to succeed, it has to be a community project. From the ground up, the elders and leaders of this village have rallied around the efforts to bring affordable education to all people who desire to learn. The reason Namelok takes in every girl, whether they can afford it or not is because education arms them with the most powerful weapon in the world. It is the only way to truly open doors, open minds and open hearts.

Action Wednesday is a global social impact organization making progress for gender equality through action.The organization will educate and enable all people on an economic, social and political scale, to close the gender gap using eight actions to be set in motion by both men and women: DONATE, GATHER, TEACH, LEAD, SEED, BUILD, CONTACT AND REACH.On March 8th, International Women’s Day, Action Wednesday will harness the impactful efforts of progressive organizations, to advocate long term changes based on action.Action Wednesday 2017 partnered with Civic Hall New York and hosted a panel "Addressing Cultural Barriers to Female Inclusion" which was viewed via livestream internationally. The panel included experts in the field, drawing upon experiences as a renown activist and author, highlighting development work high level to grassroots, and stimulated discussion around existing cultural barriers, gender equality and the promise and peril of social media. After partnering with Building Bridges on the construction of Namelok School in Tanzania, Africa, Ashley assisted on the ground relief efforts in Gerkhu, Nepal within weeks of 2015 earthquake. She strategically executed short term and long term planning with surrounding villages of Building Bridges’ contacts and constructed temporary housing and initial rehabilitation efforts where BBWW had built a medical center in 2012. Producer of three fundraising events before departing to Nepal and achieved real time results; coordinated event venues, social media, fliers, graphics and logistics. She continues to assist with ongoing facilitation of summer volunteer programs, engineered a template for annual trips to Tanzania and coordinated with local tour companies to develop a calculated itinerary to accommodate high end or budget travelers.
