Founded in 2012, The Cinderella Project of Shreveport is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. The Cinderella Project’s initial focus has been to collect donated prom dresses and distribute them to high school students who are in financial need. We assist young women in attending their prom with style and confidence while at the same time instilling an appreciation for community service and the importance of giving back. In our first year, The Cinderella Project of Shreveport collected more than 600 dress donations for 130 junior and seniors at Fair Park High School. In 2014, we will be providing dresses for five local high schools. As we look towards our future, our goal is to continue expansion to all Shreveport and Bossier high schools in the community.The prom’s significance for young women is more than just about wearing a pretty dress for one night - it’s an important rite of passage that builds self-esteem and a cherished, memorable event in their development as adults. For most students, attending their prom is a milestone where they can reflect on their past accomplishments and contemplate their plans for the future.
