I am currently in my third year of university at Campbell. I have recently changed my major to healthcare management last spring. I was previously headed to the medical field, longing to be a Physician Assistant. In high school, I participated in all of the healthcare clubs and health science classes, shadowing doctors and nurses at the local hospital. This past year I have been working at a healthcare facility as a direct support associate, working mainly with disabled, wheelchair-bound children and some of the adults. I learned a few things about insurance, quality of care, safety procedures, and the importance of a safe environment for the clients. Working at the RHA healthcare facility at Walnut Creek really softened my heart and lit a passion on the inside of me for the innocent children and adults who are not able to decide or speak up for themselves. They have no say in the healthcare they receive, especially the ones who are non-verbal, less responsive to human interaction, have parents who are incarcerated, or both parents dead.My dream career is to own multiple healthcare facilities for young children who are disabled. I also would love to travel to developing countries and help better shape the healthcare systems to decrease mortality rates, especially the maternal mortality rates.
