I answered customers' calls and emails to assist in troubleshooting their hardware / software issues with robotic tape backup equipment manufactured by Qualstar. Once hardware had been determined to be defective, I would issue a Return Materials Authorization and create documentation for followup and shipping of the item. If a machine was out of warranty or presented a sales opportunity, I would provide the customer with a quote for labor and / or hardware and would close the sale, following up as necessary. I would also test and configure items for shipping to ensure proper firmware levels and device reliability. If a customer needed a machine to be fixed, upgraded, installed or diagnosed by a Qualstar employee, I would arrange travel to a customer's data center to perform these services. The customer base ranged from small print shops, hospitals, TV stations, large public corporations and highly secure government military and research organizations. Other duties, in office, were to do new product testing, building, troubleshooting, burn-in, bug fixes, and training of production employees on new items that engineering implemented in hardware / software design.
