Information Services Librarian
CurrentGENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Head of Information Services, thisemployee performs professional library work in the Information Services Department. Thisposition involves answering reference questions from library patrons in person, by email, overthe phone and virtually. It includes assisting patrons with the use of the online catalog, Internet,print and electronic resources, microfilm, reader-printers, photocopiers, ereaders, tablets andother new technology. Ability and willingness to cooperate and coordinate with coworkers isessential to success in this position. Strong customer service skills are a must.TYPICAL DUTIES: Work scheduled hours at the Information Desk. Assist in collectiondevelopment and weeding the Adult collection. Communicate with coworkers regarding workflow and collaborate with them to give the best possible service to patrons. Assist patrons inthe use of any and all resources of the library. Secure the library building at closing. Serve asthe library authority when the Director and Head of Information Services are not in the building.Assist the Head of Information Services in the supervising and training of the paraprofessionalstaff of the Information Services Department. Keep abreast of reference trends throughprofessional reading and attendance of conferences, workshops and webinars, as able. Workas an integral part of the Information Services team in the ongoing development of the missionof the department. Work on creative projects (programming, community library liaisons,brochures, bibliographies, web pages, etc.) that keep the library up to date and vital to thecommunity. Strive to have a basic understanding of existing and forthcoming technology trendsin public libraries. Offer classes to the public on the Internet and electronic resources available,as well as other relevant topics. Create and update displays to make library resources morevisible and to create interest.
